Kirk Herbstreit explains how fan passion may have helped Texas A&M land Jimbo Fisher
The Texas A&M Aggies made one of the splashiest hires of the year on Friday, luring Jimbo Fisher away from Florida State.
Yes, the reported 10-year, $75 million contract certainly helps, but Fisher may have had other reasons for wanting to come to College Station, too.
On ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday morning, analyst Kirk Herbstreit said he thinks Texas A&M’s passionate fan base helped Fisher’s decision as well. He said Florida State has a great fan base, but things are different in the SEC:
Kirk Herbstreit on College Gameday: “I think the other draw for Jimbo Fisher is the passion that’s in College Station and being in the SEC. That’s hard to turn down. Florida State is passionate and loves their team too, but it’s just different at Texas A&M.”

When the Aggies officially introduce Fisher as their new head coach, it’s sure to be an exciting affair, as the A&M fans are ready to move on from the Kevin Sumlin era.
Now, Florida State is on the clock with a coaching search of its own, but as a program with such a long tradition of excellence, the Seminoles will likely land a big-name candidate soon.
