‘Football savvy’ and ‘true freshman’ are an unusual pairing in college football.

But five-star quarterback Kyler Murray appears to have ‘it’ during the early stages of fall camp at Texas A&M.

Offensive coordinator Jake Spavital, who has signed the nation’s top pro-style and dual-threat quarterbacks in consecutive years, likes what he is seeing from the Aggies’ latest stud and believes he will continue to push Kyle Allen for the starting job.

Asked how Murray compares to former Heisman winner Johnny Manziel, Spavital gushed over his playmaking abilities.

“He’s a special player,” Spavital said.” The thing that is pretty impressive with him is when sometimes he doesn’t know what’s going on exactly, when you’re throwing a lot of new plays there, he has a football savvy to him. He’ll drop back and if the pocket collapses, he just turns and goes and makes something happen. Very similar to the way Johnny used to play.”
