Max Johnson had his name connected to North Carolina as a transfer destination, according to a report from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

North Carolina could have a hole at quarterback next year if Drake Maye decides to declare the 2024 NFL Draft.

Johnson announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal after spending the past 2 seasons at Texas A&M. Johnson decided to transfer on Sunday amid a coaching change in College Station with Mike Elko as the next head coach.

Sources told Zenitz that the Tar Heels have emerged as someone to keep an eye on for the former Aggie.

Johnson played in 8 games for Texas A&M this season with 1,452 yards passing, 11 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. Johnson was named the starter after Conner Weigman went down with a season-ending injury.

Weigman suffered an ankle injury against Auburn. The Aggies ended up winning that game 27-10 with Johnson coming on in relief. Johnson threw 2 touchdown passes in the win.
