It was a very long week for Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman.

The sophomore struggled mightily on the big stage in Week 1, completing just 12-of-30 passes for a measly 100 yards, 0 touchdowns and 2 interceptions in a 23-13 prime-time home loss to Notre Dame.

Seven days later on the same field, Weigman flipped the script.

Weigman was efficient — completing 11-of-14 passes for 125 yards — and he cut out the errors that doomed him against the Fighting Irish, throwing 2 touchdown passes without an interception in the Aggies’ 52-10 rout of McNeese at Kyle Field.

His new coach had all the faith in Weigman, too.

“Conner (Weigman) is going to respond. We talked about that,” 1st-year Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko said. “There is a lot more to the season than just responding today.

“We will go back to work and do it again.”

First, Weigman hooked up with Noah Thomas on a 15-yard touchdown strike with 10:27 left in the 2nd quarter, giving the Aggies a 28-0 lead. Later in the 2nd quarter, Weigman was at it again, connecting with Moose Muhammad III on a 3-yard touchdown pass that gave Texas A&M a 35-0 lead.

At that point, Weigman’s day was done, with Marcel Reed replacing him before halftime.

Weigman’s task gets a lot tougher in Week 3, with Texas A&M visiting Florida next Saturday.
