No coincidence: John Chavis dons cover of Texas A&M-Tennessee program
Saturday’s game at College Station pins current Texas A&M defensive coordinator John Chavis against Tennessee, his alma matter and the place where he began his coaching career.
Chavis served as a graduate assistant with the Vols in 1979 and returned to the program as a defensive line/linebackers coach in 1989 before eventually being promoted to defensive coordinator in 1995. The Chief spent 19 consecutive seasons as a member of the Vols staff before joining LSU’s staff in 2009 after Phillip Fulmer’s termination.
So, perhaps his inclusion on Saturday’s media guide is more than a coincidence as 247Sports’ John Brice pointed out on Twitter.
Can't imagine John "Chief" Chavis on program cover today is a coincidence? How'd that work for UGA w/ Kublanow? pic.twitter.com/rPSWxwaNRx

Last week, Georgia featured offensive lineman Brandon Kublanow, who injured Tennessee defensive tackle Shy Tuttle on a low block in 2015, on the ticket of last week’s game, as Brice alluded to.
In A&M’s case, Chavis’ inclusion could be a reminder of what Tennessee used to have. However, both teams have ranked closely in each statistical category with the Vols holding an edge in total and passing defense and the Aggies leading in scoring and rushing defense.
Saturday’s game is set for a 3:30 p.m. EST kickoff.
