The Texas A&M Aggies are up to No. 5 in the College Football Playoff rankings, but they need some help to get in the Playoff field.

Also, they need to pass the “eye test” in the eyes of the College Football Playoff selection committee at Tennessee on Saturday afternoon. But, so far, it’s not looking like that’s happening.

Late in the second quarter, the Aggies held a narrow 17-13 lead against the Vols, which wasn’t exactly the dominant performance many wanted to see from Jimbo Fisher’s squad, especially since the Vols are without DC Derek Ansley and star RB Eric Gray. A late touchdown pass to Ainias Smith gave the Vols a more comfortable 24-13 lead at halftime.

To make things even more interesting, Northwestern held a 10-3 lead midway through the second quarter against Ohio State, the No. 4 team in the country. Fans had plenty to say on social media after the Aggies’ first-half performance against the Vols:

Will the Aggies put it together after the break and blow out the Vols? They might gain some motivation after checking the Northwestern score during the intermission. We’ll see what happens in the second half!
