Paul Finebaum recently chimed in on Texas A&M’s 26-20 loss to Alabama during the most recent edition of McElroy And Cubelic In The Morning.

The ESPN analyst doesn’t think Jimbo Fisher is on the hot seat yet but thinks the upcoming game at Tennessee could be extremely difficult for the Aggies. Finebaum thinks Fisher needs to get a signature victory soon to solidify his status.

“I still believe Jimbo Fisher is in a reasonably good position at A&M,” Finebaum said. “…I didn’t feel an urgency regardless of a couple of slips along the way. His real problem after Saturday, he goes to Knoxville. It’s really incumbent and urgent upon this program to get a big win somewhere.”

Finebaum was also critical of some of the play calling during the narrow defeat. He criticized Fisher for his conservative approach.

“I just have to question some of his decision making. I think 2 or 3 calls. The decision not to go for it. The decision to try the field goal as opposed to going for the 1st down,” Finebaum said. “It’s going to haunt him. When you make a mistake, you either pay for it or you’re proven right. He was proven wrong. I think that’s the haunting thing.”

That being said, Finebaum still believes there’s time to resurrect the perception of Fisher.

“I still don’t feel panic reigning through the Texas A&M empire right now in relation to Jimbo Fisher,” Finebaum said.

Texas A&M at Tennessee is slated for Oct. 14 at 3:30 p.m. EST (CBS).
