Here are some quick thoughts on Texas A&M’s 44-27 victory over Nevada at Kyle Field on Saturday.

What it means: Texas A&M moves to 3-0 on the season, while Nevada falls to 1-2. It wasn’t always pretty for the home team, but if we’ve learned anything in the SEC this season — Toledo, anyone? — a win is a win.

What I liked: The goal for this game for Texas A&M was to win, and to stay healthy while doing so. Having accomplished that, the Aggies are now able to gear up for SEC play. Myles Garrett made 3.5 sacks for Texas A&M, Christian Kirk produced another good game and for the most part Texas A&M’s offense moved the football.

What I didn’t like: When you’re a 34-point favorite, you need to put the game away early. But Nevada was able to draw some confidence defensively, getting two straight stops after that opening touchdown drive. Then, the Wolfpack offense tied the score on a 31-yard touchdown run by Don Jackson on a fourth-and-1 play late in the first quarter. Jackson started left, let the Aggies overpursue and then cut back to the right for the score.

It was a slow start for Texas A&M, and only a defensive holding penalty kept Nevada from grabbing a 14-7 lead on a scoop-and-score fumble recovery on the Aggies’ next drive. As it stood, it was a 24-10 Texas A&M lead at the break.

Who’s the man: It wasn’t a perfect day, but sophomore quarterback Kyle Allen did a lot of good things. He was 18-for-31 for 270 yards and four touchdowns and an interception. He also ran the ball 10 times for 55 yards and another score.

Key play: Donovan Wilson picked off a Tyler Stewart pass on the first play of the second half, setting the Texas A&M offense up inside the Wolfpack 30. Three plays later, Allen hit Josh Reynolds for a 10-yard touchdown strike, making the score 31-10, giving the Aggies a comfortable working margin.

What’s next: The Aggies will take their 3-0 record and begin SEC West play next week with a game in Arlington at AT&T Stadium against Arkansas.
