Texas A&M’s Jake Spavital, the SEC’s youngest offensive coordinator, will reportedly interview for the head coach opening at North Texas later this month, according to Football Scoop.

Oklahoma OC Lincoln Riley was reportedly interviewed this week, but denied that report on Friday through a university statement.

Spavital, 30, had serious momentum coming into the season as one of college football’s most respected recruiters on offense after signing the nation’s top pocket passer (Kyle Allen) and top dual-threat (Kyler Murray) in back-to-back classes. Spavital’s also received a commitment from Tate Martell, one of the nation’s top five-star passers in the 2017 class.

An Air Raid disciple, Spavital previously worked under Dana Holgorsen at West Virginia (2011-12) where he coached Geno Smith. Two previous seasons, Spavital was a grad assistant under Holgorsen (OC) at Oklahoma State and Kevin Sumlin at Houston.

Spavital has been Sumlin’s right-hand man on offense since the 2013 season where he was promoted to offensive coordinator prior to Texas A&M’s appearance in the Chik-fil-A Bowl.
