With the surprising news that Jimbo Fisher is no longer the head coach at Texas A&M, the question that entered everyone’s mind is who will be the next coach in College Station.

There will be a lot of rumors over the next few days, but Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork gave an indication on Saturday what type of coach the program will be looking for to replace Fisher.

“We need to find somebody who can build this sustainable tenure,” Bjork said. “We have to. Can we find the next R.C. Slouch who can be here a long time and win championships? We have to have consistency. To me, that’s the key to the next hire.”

During his time as the coach at Texas A&M, Fisher was 45-25 in 6 years. His best season was during the 2020 Covid-19 season, as the Aggies finished the year 9-1 and 4th in the country. The last 2 years have been the worst in the Fisher era, and definitely played a reason in Sunday’s firing.

The Aggies finished last season 5-7 despite having the best recruiting class in all of college football. With the 6-4 record this year, that means Texas A&M is 11-11 in its last 22 games. Don’t expect Bjork to be fast on this hiring, as he stated, this has to be a perfect hire.
