Elijah Robinson made a special gesture in his first game as interim head coach of Texas A&M.

Robinson brought out an all walk-on team for a kickoff in the second half. Not only did the walk-on team make a tackle, they forced a fumble and gave Texas A&M great field position, and the Aggies scored a few plays later.

After the game, Robinson discussed his decision to bring out the all walk-on team and what the moment means for his team.

“On Senior Day, I was trying to figure out how to get as many guys on the field as much as possible,” Robinson said in his postgame press conference. “They’ll never forget that, and I was excited to see them go out and have success.”

The moment was special for Texas A&M’s Sam Mathews, who is this year’s 12th Man.

“The standard is still there,” Mathews said. “We have to go in there and handle our business. It was a great opportunity, and it got the guys fired up.”

Mathews also made the final tackle at Kyle Field for the 2023 season. For him, it’s a moment he’ll remember forever.

“That’s got to be No. 1, and it’s not even close,” Mathews said. “I don’t think I was ready for that final whistle today.” “Today, I really tried to soak it all in, be a kid and just have fun with it.”

Mathews praised his coach for taking a chance on the walk-on team and giving them a moment to remember forever.

“I really appreciate Coach E-Rob and everyone else involved that made the decision to bring it back because that was special,” Mathews said.
