For the first time this season, Texas A&M’s schedule has been impacted by COVID-19.

Because of an outbreak within the Aggies’ program, Saturday’s game between Texas A&M and Tennessee has been postponed, as announced Tuesday. The game will now take place Dec. 12 at Neyland Stadium.

Following the announcement, Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher commented on the postponement with an official statement.

“First, and foremost, is the health and safety of our players in our football program,” Fisher said in a statement. “I would never jeopardize their well-being and we will continue to follow all protocols. Our football team roster has fallen below the SEC threshold in order to compete this week due to two players testing positive for COVID, the contact tracing associated with the road trip to go along with the players who have opted out and who are injured.

“We look forward to getting back out there because our team has been practicing and playing well.”

The Aggies are currently ranked No. 5 in the AP Top 25 poll after starting the season 5-1. Their only loss came against No. 1 Alabama, and they’ve since bounced back with four straight victories.

Texas A&M is currently scheduled to host Ole Miss on Nov. 21, but it’s unclear whether that game’s status could also be up in the air.
