Texas A&M DB Jacoby Mathews will reportedly look elsewhere to continue his college football career.

Hayes Fawcett of On3 shares that Mathews plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Mathews enrolled at Texas A&M in May 2022. While graduates can enter the portal at any time, undergrads have to wait for the next window, which is scheduled for April 16-30.

Mathews has played in 21 games for the Aggies. He has two full years of remaining eligibility, along with an available redshirt in case of a shortened season.

Last season, Mathews played in 11 contests, making 9 starts. He improved upon his freshman numbers across the board, logging 42 tackles and 5 passes defended with his first-career interception.

Out of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, Mathews was a sought-after recruit in the 2022 recruiting class, with 31 scholarship offers. He was rated 4-stars, the No. 2 safety, No. 3 player in the state of Louisiana and No. 39 prospect overall on the 247Sports Composite.

Mathews initially committed to LSU in April 2021 but backed off his pledge three months later. He signed with Texas A&M after also considering Florida, LSU and Texas.

As an experienced starting SEC defensive back, Mathews figures to be a sought-after player once he can enter the portal in April. We’ll see where he lands.
