The Texas A&M defense has been elite in 2023, but one key area stands above the rest.
The Aggies join an exclusive club of just 3 other teams who have had 15+ tackles for loss in back-to-back games against FBS opponents in the last 20 years. The 2023 Texas A&M Aggies join 2019 Miami, 2016 Arkansas State, and 2008 Boston College.
Teams with 15 TFL in back to back games vs FBS Opponents over the last 20 Seasons:
2023- Texas A&M (AUB & ARK)
2019- Miami (FSU & LOU)
2016- Arkansas St (TXST & UCF)
2008- Boston College (VT & VAN)— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) October 2, 2023
The Aggies have the No. 5 defense in the nation through 5 games. The team is allowing just 253.8 total yards per game and has the third-most sacks in the country as well. Only James Madison has more tackles for loss than A&M’s 49.
Edgerrin Cooper and Shemar Turner have completely transformed the Aggies’ defense into one of the scariest units in the nation. Cooper and Turner have combined for 27 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.
The next test for the Aggie defense will be against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 6. The Crimson Tide have just the 86th-ranked total offense in the nation, so the Aggies should have no problem adding to their TFL total.
