They say the crème always rises to the top. Well, we shall see on Saturday which team continues its ascension in the SEC West when Texas A&M (6-2, 3-2) welcomes in Auburn (6-2, 3-1) to Kyle Field. It’s the CBS Game of the Week in the familiar 3:30 p.m. ET time slot.

This is about as evenly-matched a game as you’ll find. Both teams are on winning streaks and both are playing their best football to date. The Aggies are on a 3-game streak that started with probably the biggest victory in college football this season, a 41-38 victory over Alabama, while Auburn has won its past 2 in impressive fashion over Arkansas (38-23) and Ole Miss (31-20).

So, let’s dive right into it, here are 5 bold predictions for the big game on Saturday.

1. Aggies get first win over Auburn at Kyle Field

It’s difficult to imagine that Texas A&M has never beaten Auburn in Kyle Field. On the surface that seems impossible, especially when you consider that Texas A&M owns the series lead over Auburn. They’ve only played the Tigers 4 times at Kyle Field and they had to join the SEC to do it. Prior to that, the teams had met just twice. That seems almost impossible to believe as well. Both of those meetings were in Dallas, and the Aggies won both; claiming a 16-0 victory over Auburn way back in 1911 and then taking down the Tigers, 36-16, in the 1986 Cotton Bowl.

But the Aggies improve on their 6-5 all-time edge over Auburn and the losing streak to the Tigers at Kyle Field comes to an end Saturday. The difference will be 1 big play from a trio of Aggies’ home run hitters. Take your pick: either Ainias Smith, Isaiah Spiller or Devon Achane will make the big play that swings the game the Aggies’ way. The trio has combined to score 18 of the Aggies’ 25 TDs this season.

2. The game goes to overtime

As evenly matched as these teams are, is this really a bold prediction?

This shapes up to be one of the more entertaining games of the season with Auburn QB Bo Nix rounding into the signal-caller The Plains had been hoping to see since he first stepped on campus vs. a physical Aggies’ squad on both sides of the line of scrimmage.

It shapes up to be one of those good old-fashioned SEC slobber-knockers. How else could it end but in overtime?

3. The game goes over-50

It won’t get there in regulation time, but the over/under total of 50 points is achieved in that overtime period. The Aggies will methodically move the football up and down the field with their 3-headed monster Smith, Spiller and Achane and score enough points to keep up with the Tigers.

Auburn will rely on Nix to make some big plays and his newfound scrambling abilities will allow a senior group of receivers (along with sophomore leader Kobe Hudson) to find openings in the Aggies’ secondary. Running backs Tank Bigsby and Jarquez Hunter pose enough of a threat on the ground to keep the Aggies defense honest.

4. Aggies cover the 4.5-point spread

How does this happen, you say, with all the talk about this being such an evenly-matched game decided in OT? Well, if you’re paying attention I also called for overtime. If this game goes to, say, 24-24 after 60 minutes, the opportunity presents itself.

The Aggies cross the end zone in overtime, win the game, cover the spread, and send the game over the 50-point total all in one heart-pounding play that sends the 12th Man into a frenzy and Reveille to a tail-wagging fit.

5. All-time FG record set

This isn’t so much of a bold prediction but needs to be noted. Senior place-kicker Seth Small has booted 62 career field goals and needs 1 more to break a tie with 2011 Lou Groza Award winner Randy Bullock and become Texas A&M’s all-time leader.

It won’t be as dramatic as the one that beat Alabama, but it will be critical in this key SEC West showdown of quality teams on the rise.
