There was some news to report about the Texas A&M coaching staff on Sunday. Jimbo Fisher confirmed the news at a press conference on Sunday.

Jimbo Fisher announced that Joe Schaefer will be promoted from defensive analyst to assistant coach. Schaefer will be coaching the secondary and will work primarily with the safeties and nickel corners.

Schaefer is filling the position that was previously held by Terry Price.

The Aggie secondary did a solid job of limiting success in the passing game last season. Texas A&M led the SEC in passing yards allowed per game with 156.2.

Texas A&M will be hoping that the defense can put up similar numbers to that in 2023.

The Aggies finished the regular season at 5-7 last year. Fans will be hoping to reach bowl season this year after a disappointing 2022.

The 2023 season for Texas A&M kicks off on Sept. 2 against New Mexico. That game will start at 7 p.m. ET on be shown on ESPN.
