Texas A&M seemed to have targeted a new offensive coordinator very quickly after parting with the old one. They brought him in and got him accustomed to Texas A&M and the way things work there.

Now he has left College Station . . . and he is not yet the offensive coordinator.

UCLA offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone, the frontrunner and presumptive offensive coordinator for Texas A&M, reportedly left College Station without signing a contract, leaving his status very uncertain.

This of course does not mean Mazzone does not eventually become Texas A&M’s next offensive coordinator. There may still be i’s to dot and t’s to cross in negotiations.

It does mean though that the process may not be so cut and dry for Mazzone and Texas A&M. There may be some hiccups to work through.

It is not good for Texas A&M though. The Aggies have had an up-and-down offseason with both leading quarterbacks leaving the program as transfers and the program facing a lot of questions at the top.

Kevin Sumlin has had to regroup quickly and fend off questions about his program’s direction. Not having the leading candidate for offensive coordinator wrapped up yet certainly does not breed confidence.

All that we know for now is that the negotiations are not done and that Texas A&M does not have an offensive coordinator yet.
