Texas A&M picks up first 2023 commitment from a 4-star in-state defensive end

The Texas A&M Aggies have been improving their recruiting under Jimbo Fisher. In the 2021 cycle that just wrapped up, the Aggies signed the No. 7 class in the nation, per the 247Sports composite rankings.
Now, as they work on their 2022 class, they’re also getting started in the 2023 cycle, landing their first 2023 commitment on Thursday evening.
As you can see below, 4-star DE Anthony James II of Wylie, Texas, announced via Twitter that he’d be heading to College Station:

Per the 247Sports rankings, James is the No. 8 strong-side defensive end in the class of 2023 and the No. 3 overall recruit from the state of Texas.
