Jimbo Fisher has zeroed in on his replacement for Mike Elko, and it’s Ole Miss defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin, who is reportedly finalizing a 3-year deal to join the Aggies staff, Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports reported.

Durkin spent the last two years as the defensive coordinator at Ole Miss, and is credited with a significant turnaround of the defense from last season. The Rebels last year allowed 38.3 points per game, but this season improved to just 24.7. Across the country, Ole Miss improved from 117th to 51st in scoring defense this year. The Rebels beat the Aggies 29-19 in November en route to a Sugar Bowl appearance.

The 43-year-old Durkin was previously the defensive coordinator at Florida and Michigan before he was hired as head coach at Maryland. He went 10-15 in 2 seasons with the Terrapins.

Durkin would replace Mike Elko, who left A&M to be the new head coach at Duke.
