Texas A&M is reportedly looking to hire away an SEC West defensive coordinator.

According to John Brice of FootballScoop, Jimbo Fisher is looking to hire away DJ Durkin from Ole Miss.

Durkin has been Ole Miss’ defensive coordinator since 2020, the first season of the Lane Kiffin era. Durkin has prior experience as a defensive coordinator at Florida under Will Muschamp (2013-14) and Michigan under Jim Harbaugh (2015-16).

This season, Durkin’s Ole Miss defense ranked No. 11 in the SEC in total defense (420.4 yards per game), No. 9 in passing defense (230 yards per game), No. 12 in rushing defense (190.38 yards per game) and No. 8 in scoring defense (24.7 points per game). The Rebels were led the SEC in turnover margin (0.69 per game) and were No. 3 in the conference in sacks (3.08 per game).

Jimbo Fisher’s program is looking for a new defensive coordinator after Mike Elko’s departure to take the head coaching job at Duke.
