Texas A&M will be without Chris Russell Jr. next season after he declared for the 2024 NFL Draft on Wednesday.

Russell had played linebacker at Texas A&M since 2019. He accounted for 112 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 1 pick-6, 2 fumble recoveries, and 1 forced fumble over the last 5 seasons. Russell was a staple among Aggie LBs, playing in 42 games over his college career.

The Texas A&M defender was grateful for his time in College Station. Here’s what he said in his farewell note:

“First and foremost, thank God for blessing me to play the game that I love and for every opportunity he has given me along the way. To family and friends, thank you for being with me each step of the way,” said Russell. “To Coach Fisher, Coach Durkin, thank you for putting your trust in me and giving me a chance to show you what I am capable of. … With that being said I am proud to announce – I WILL BE DECLARING FOR THE 2024 Draft.”

The Aggies finished the year at 7-6 after losing to Oklahoma State in the Texas Bowl. There will be a new man leading the charge, however. Former Texas A&M assistant Mike Elko is back to take over as head coach after a stint with Duke.
