Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin and Texas coach Tom Herman both have history in the state of Texas.

In fact, they’ve both served as head coach of the Houston Cougars (Sumlin from 2008 to 2011 and Herman from 2015 to 2016), which has led to a friendship developing between the two coaches.

However, as they’re now major rivals on the recruiting trail, Sumlin said on Friday that he anticipates less football-specific conversations with Herman in the future:

They’ll still potentially be able to discuss opponents and other topics, since the Aggies and Longhorns no longer play annually.

It remains to be seen if a flipped recruit changes anything in the former Cougars’ friendship.
