The Athletic's Andy Staples says he 'wouldn't be shocked' if Texas A&M is No. 4 in first CFP rankings
The Texas A&M Aggies are No. 5 in the latest AP Poll, and now the wait is on for the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season.
The rankings come out on Tuesday night. Many believe Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Clemson will be the top 4 teams, in some order, but the Aggies certainly have a case for being in the top 4, as their only loss was to Alabama.
On Monday’s edition of “The Paul Finebaum Show,” The Athletic’s Andy Staples said he wouldn’t be surprised to see the Aggies in the No. 4 spot:
–@Andy_Staples: "When the playoff rankings come out tomorrow, I wouldn't be shocked if Texas A&M is at No. 4."
— Paul Finebaum (@finebaum) November 23, 2020
That would certainly be surprising to many, as Clemson was without star QB Trevor Lawrence for its loss at Notre Dame.
Still, this is a crazy season where anything can happen, so we’ll see where the Aggies end up in the debut 2020 CFP rankings on Tuesday night.
Overrated Aggies
We will find that out in the next 4 games.
Buckle up – should be fun to watch!
Overrated compared to who? Clemson could barely beat Boston College without Lawrence. A&M has played Clemson tough the last 2 years with Lawrence playing for Clemson. The truth is, everyone could be considered “overrated” outside the Top 3. A&M is certainly the best team outside of the Top 3 or Top 4 (if you include Clemson). Who is better? Oregon? Indiana? Northwestern? GTFO. Florida already took one L from them and would again.
How can you know they “would again”? On any given Saturday, any SEC team can lose to any other SEC team. Ever hear a coach predict anything like that? Right, because they know better.
