The Texas A&M Aggies had a hotly contested preseason quarterback battle, with Kellen Mond eventually winning the job over Nick Starkel.

During a huge 59-7 season-opening victory over Northwestern State on Thursday night, Mond showed why he won the job, throwing for 184 yards and two touchdowns and adding another touchdown on the ground before giving way to the backups.

As you can see in the video below, Mond said he felt good getting back out on the field:

“I feel accomplished, but I still have a lot of work to do,” he said. “I felt really composed today. I thought I did a good job of setting the defense in this process and being able to know where to go with the ball. We’ve got another week to get ready. This next defense will probably be a little bit more complex.”

Considering Clemson is coming to town on Saturday, Sept. 8, it’s definitely safe to say the Aggies are in for a much bigger challenge.
