What Elijah Robinson said after Texas A&M's win over Abeline Christian
Elijah Robinson secured his first win as interim head coach for Texas A&M on Saturday, beating Abeline Christian 38-10.
It was a tough week for the program with Jimbo Fisher being fired last Sunday, but the Aggies stepped up to the challenge and handled business on Saturday.
The Aggies got off to a slow start, but ultimately pulled away in the second half.
“It’s been a trying week for those guys, which is not an excuse,” Robinson said in his postgame press conference. “We gotta come back out. The first thing we do is make sure we do go into halftime being able to comeback strong, play a full game. Early on, we were just out of rhythm, just had to get going… We started to move the ball better in the second half. Defense started forcing punts.”
It was senior day for Texas A&M, and the seniors got to go out with a big win in their final game at Kyle Field.
“It’s a unique group,” Robinson said. “I told the locker room today, it doesn’t mean it’s the end for those guys. They just pass the torch on. When you have a brotherhood the biggest thing is understanding this. It’s an obligation to somebody else once they leave.”
Quarterback Jaylen Henderson got his second start of the season, picking up 260 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
“I thought Jaylen came out and he stayed consistent,” Robinson said. “He settled down after the first half. Didn’t turn it over. He had the fumble but he didn’t throw the ball to the other team. He’ll keep getting better as the week’s go on.”
Robinson had a tumultuous week, but came out and got a good win. Now he’s looking to end the season on a high note against LSU next week.
“We have a great support staff,” Robinson said. “We’re always on the same page with the support staff and the coaching staff. We made sure as we sat down we did what was best for the guys.”
