What Jimbo Fisher said after falling short to Tennessee

A tough night on Rocky Top led to another top-25 road loss for Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M.

The Aggies had every chance to win the game, but ultimately Tennessee’s defense stood strong, coming up with a pair of clutch interceptions on Texas A&M’s final 2 drives.

The Aggies now fall to 4-3 on the season and still face a tough schedule with teams like Ole Miss and LSU down the road.

It was a less than desirable game for Max Johnson, who had 223 yards and 2 interceptions on the night. Tennessee’s defensive line brought the pressure all night, bringing Johnson down twice and forcing several bad throws throughout the night. But Fisher is still confident in the sophomore as he continues to find his footing.

“We can get open better, we can play better, Max is playing good football,” Fisher said in his postgame press conference. “He is a really good player, good kid, and competes his butt off.

Fisher gave credit to Tennessee’s defensive line, which had 5 tackles for loss on the night.

“We became one dimensional in the passing game,” Fisher said. “They have front guys that are going to get drafted.”

Fisher wants his offense to get better at making plays, which it failed to do in some crucial moments.

“We moved the ball, and get to midfield and stall,” Fisher said. “A game of inches and we didn’t make them.”

Despite the loss, Fisher liked what he saw from his defense. It contained Tennessee’s explosive offense and held Joe Milton to just 100 passing yards, which is no small feat.

“They moved the ball well, but our defense got stops and made tackles,” Fisher said.

Now Texas A&M gets a chance to regroup with the bye week before taking on South Carolina.
