The Tennessee Volunteers (2-3) extended their annual losing streak to 10 games with a 10-9 loss to Florida (4-1). The Volunteers held a 9-0 lead entering the fourth quarter, before the Gators scored 10 unanswered points. Florida gained the momentum after benching starting quarterback Jeff Driskel for true freshman Treon Harris in the fourth.

Here are five takeaways from Saturday’s game.

1. The offensive line is awful: There’s no way to sugar coat it, the offensive line is terrible. It’s one thing that the Vols needed to replace every starting player in the trenches, but their current lineup looks incapable of blocking any defensive pass rush through five games. There’s no way this offense will see any progress without blocking and the Vols will continue to struggle.

2. Defense can’t do all the work : Tennessee’s defense was stellar on Saturday. The Vols held Florida scoreless at halftime for the first time since 1955. Tennessee forced three turnovers, 76  total passing yards and a 7-of-20 third down efficiency. But the offense did absolutely no favors securing a late-game lead and choked at home.

3. Jalen Hurd needed more carries: Jalen Hurd was sidelined on several second half possessions due to a shoulder injury. This limited his production to just 39 yards on 10 carries. Tennessee’s running game struggled as Hurd saw less touches and the Vols should continue to rely heavily on him moving forward.

4. Aaron Medley is a solid option at kicker: Aaron Medley went 3-for-3 on field goal attempts for Tennessee. Medley was inconsistent in his first two appearances, but hasn’t missed a single attempt since Week 2. On Saturday, Medley provided Tennessee with every point it saw in a 10-9 loss.

5. Playcalling was suspect: Tennessee’s staff made several questionable decisions on Saturday. Mike Bajakian’s offense was too conservative with a 9-0 lead, as if thinking it would hold up the entire game. The short passes behind the line of scrimmage did no favors for the struggling Tennessee offense that failed to find the end zone all game.
