The Tennessee Volunteers will face the Iowa Hawkeyes in the 2015 Taxslayer Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla., on Friday. The Hawkeyes went 7-5 (4-4 Big Ten) in 2014 and are coming off a two-game losing streak. But Iowa is a capable opponent that could upset the Vols, who enter as a 3.5-point favorite.

Here’s a look at five players every Tennessee fan should know entering the TaxSlayer Bowl.

1. OT Brandon Scherff: Scherff won the 2014 Outland Trophy, presented to the nation’s top interior lineman. The 6-foot-5, 320-pound senior is projected to be a first round pick in the 2015 NFL draft and has drawn comparisons to former Iowa stars Marshal Yanda, Bryan Bulaga and Riley Reiff. Scherff will matchup against Tennessee’s freshman star Derek Barnett.

2. QB Jake Rudock: Rudock led the nation’s No. 53 overall passing offense with 2,404 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions on 211-of-337 passing. The junior also rushed for 154 yards and three touchdowns on 65 attempts. Rudock is coming off three consecutive games of more than 200 yards passing and multiple touchdowns.

3. RB Mark Weisman: Weisman led Iowa with 802 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on 206 attempts. But the senior recorded the 100-yard plateau once in 2014, during a 30-14 win against Illinois. Weisman was the bright spot on an Iowa team that, uncharacteristically, ranked No. 73 overall in rushing offense and averaged 156.3 yards per game.

4. DE Drew Ott: Ott was the Hawkeyes’ best defensive lineman in 2014, recording a team-best 12 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. The junior also finished fifth on the team in tackles (55). Ott could have a major performance facing an ailing Vols offensive line that ranked last in the SEC in both sacks and tackles for loss allowed.

5. DB John Lowdermilk: Lowdermilk was a do-everything safety for the Hawkeyes. The senior led the team in tackles (95), interceptions (3) and fumbles forced (2). Lowdermilk even found the end zone on a 17-yard interception return against Nebraska in Iowa’s final game of the regular season. The safety will face a talented Tennessee wide receiving corps that includes Alton “Pig” Howard, Von Pearson and several other capable targets.
