Starting SEC QB wastes no time recruiting Arik Gilbert after freshman enters transfer portal
If you missed the news, LSU star freshman tight end Arik Gilbert has announced his decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal.
Gilbert’s decision to enter the portal comes after the freshman opted out of the final two games of LSU’s season. The true freshman caught 35 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers in eight games this season.
While many assume the tight end is headed home to play for Georgia, Gilbert is from Marietta, Ga., the star freshman is going to have the option of attending nearly any program in the country.
Case in point, it literally moments after Gilbert announced his decision, Tennessee quarterback Harrison Bailey started publicly recruiting the tight end.
If you were unaware, Bailey and Gilbert were high school teammates at Marietta High School and led the program to its first Georgia state title in over 50 years.
Here is the tweet Bailey issued to recruit Gilbert:

If he was interested in a rebuilding program he would have stayed at LSU. I don’t know where he is going but I’m sure it will be to a team with a shot at winning.
Can you really call LSU rebuilding when they won it all a year ago? When was the last time UGA has done that again?
The only teams worse than LSU were your vols, vandy, and miss state. If you don’t think they are a rebuild losing as much as they lost then you are as dumb as your comment. When was the last time Tennessee won anything? You guys are still champions of life at least.
MSU beat LSU. Arkansas lost to LSU and had 2 less wins. So you can add Arkansas and take away MSU. You could also easily add USC.
They had tons of opt outs, so you’re the one being misinformed and ignorant. They also managed to beat the Florida team that stomped yours. Until they’ve lost multiple years with good players, they’re not rebuilding. Unlike UGA, they don’t crap the bed with top talent.

Yes. LSU is a flash in the pan. 5-8+ Years of top recruiting class depth and steady HCs creates a strong program (ie Bama, Clemson, etc)
Why would any recruit use their portal transfer to got to a dumpster fire like TN with a coach in the hot seat and program under NCAA investigations
Pruitt is on the hot seat. I am afraid this is going to impact recruiting. We desperately need TE help, and he looks like a good one. Not sure how attractive the environment is to prospects.
You need TE help, but Chaney doesn’t use TEs as anything else but vestigial tackles. So…
Who said Chaney will be the OC next season? So…
He was recruited by LSU because of what he and Bailey did as team mates. If Bailey is the qb, the tight end will be used no matter the OC
Bailey is the lead recruiter. I’m staying tuned…
Yeah, no big time TE is going to play for Chaney.
The leaders in the clubhouse are Georgia, Bama, and Floriduh.
LOL. Dream big, Harrison Bailey. Dream big.
Everyone knows Chaney’s offense is where TE’s go to die.
See reply above.
41 years and counting, Corch…
When y’all haven’t even won the SEC in over 22 years, you have no place to talk. Were you even alive the last time the Vawls were actually relevant?
They won’t be relevant again in his lifetime. Kids today don’t care about history and tradition and since Tennessee doesn’t produce many elite players they are screwed since the Ga pipeline got shut down.
Alvin Kamara is better than any UGA player in the NFL. Besides Nick Chubb, name a UGA player in the league that is elite. Derek Barnett recovered a Super Bowl winning fumble, not an elite player, but a consistent 5-6 sacks a year guy.
Dirtydumb*ss-TN objectively produces more in state talent now than ever. Whether TN ever gets the top of that queetionable. What’s not questionable is your idiocy and ignorance of easily verifiable facts.

If Gilbert was so interested in playing with Harrison Bailey. I’m sure he would have followed him already. Bailey is not even guaranteed to be your starting QB!!! UGA will have a lethal passing game next season. We already have an up and coming superstar at TE. But it doesn’t hurt to have 2 of them!!! That way when one takes a breather the other makes the big plays. They both remain fresh!!! We also run 2 TE sets. Now that would make JT Daniels, Carson Beck and Vandagriff that much more lethal!!!!
Normally Florida would probably have a shot at landing him. But he shouldn’t go there. Because Emory Jones is not Kyle Trask!!! And without those other big-time receiving threats that are leaving. Florida is extremely AVERAGE!!!! I look for them to fall off in a big-time way next season. I’m talking 2017 all over again!!!
Gilbert can see that the bulldawgs are about to begin their own DYNASTY!!! They would have already if we didn’t have all the injuries and opt outs!!!! Next season UGA could start out ranked #1 in the country!!! Actually I hope their not ranked #1 to start. But they could be!!!!
PS. They said Gilbert was homesick. Well if so UGA is home!!!!
King Negan
Top five probably, Bama, Ohio St, and Oklahoma will be 1 2 3.
Well negan bailey is as guaranteed to start as Daniels is. I don’t think UGA having a stud TE already helps them at all. Just the opposite.
Pruitt has already surprised me with the glass he held together. We may be a long shot but we have a shot.

“Next season UGA could start out ranked #1 in the country!!! Actually I hope their not ranked #1 to start. But they could be!!!!”
You don’t have to hope because they won’t be number 1…
Please! We need a star player.
I’m sure having Bailey is a draw for Tennessee, but Gilbert is likely looking for a creative offense that can maximize his ability.
Sorry, but I just don’t see Chaney as capable of doing that. Chaney is the right OC to hire if you’re a first time HC with a defensive background. He’s not an OC who can take the offense to the next level.
I’d say Florida would be ideal for him if he stays in the SEC. He could replace Pitts to some extent, he knows they definitely use tight ends as a prominent feature of the offense. I would love to have him aboard though.
Mullen’s creative enough to use Gilbert in the right way.
But does he have a QB who’s capable of getting him an accurate ball?
With Emory Jones, I have my doubts…
Yeah, Emory has rode the pine for a while no doubt. But as much as it pains me to say, Mullen is at the least a consistent enough qb whisperer to have Emory competitive next year.
He won’t be coming to Bama.
All this projection from so many teams about where he is going! Why not ask him if he’s already on his way to Beamerville??
The coach at Florida is going to Jacksonville.
The coach at Georgia is going to the Jets.
Both teams will have to recover from the shock.
The Vols win the sec east next season.
