This spring was big for defensive end Austin Smith, but he’ll miss the rest of practice with a shoulder injury, Butch Jones confirmed after Tuesday’s practice.

“He’ll be lost for the rest of the spring. We’ll get him back in June,” Jones said after Tuesday’s practice, via 247Sports. “It’s a shoulder.”

Smith, a Georgia native, was moved from linebacker to defensive line after last season, and it was a big spring for him in a new position.

Smith played in all 13 games as a freshman, making three tackles.

“Most of the injuries were postseason injuries,” Jones said of the team’s injuries. “We’ve had — knock on wood — very few this spring. But not really. Just bumps and bruises here and there. We’ve had some illness going around, so we’ve had individuals (sick). Justin Martin didn’t practice on Saturday. He had some illness. He wasn’t out here today, either. He has the flu.”
