Ben Joyce had an excellent start to his Major League Baseball career on Monday night.

The former Vol lit up the radar gun during his first-career inning in the bigs. His fastball averaged 101.3 MPH and got as high as 102.2 MPH during his clean inning of work.

Here are some highlights from Joyce’s night:

“It felt awesome. I felt very comfortable — a lot more comfortable than I thought I’d feel,” Joyce said, via MLB.com. “Just went out and trusted my stuff and threw strikes, and it worked out. It was an amazing feeling.”

He struck out 2 batters in his lone inning of work. It took him 12 pitches to make it through the 7th inning against the White Sox. Eleven of those pitches were fastballs, but he also tossed out an 89 MPH slider.

Joyce is the first former SEC player to debut from the 2022 MLB Draft. He was a 3rd round pick by the Angels last summer and quickly moved through the minor league ranks. He projects to be a big part of the Angels bullpen moving forward.
