Tennessee is set to lose some depth in the defensive backfield ahead of fall camp.

Veteran defender Brandon Davis (New Orleans, La.) announced on social media that he was entering the NCAA transfer portal. Usually, when players enter the transfer portal, they don’t release public statements. Being in the transfer portal allows them to have conversations with other programs around the country, and it also allows players to return to their schools if they change their mind.

Davis, however, seems solid on transferring, as he released a statement on his personal Twitter account.

“I would like to thank my family and friends who’s been with me throughout my journey I’m on and continuing to be on,” he wrote. “I would also like to thank the coaches (who have) helped me throughout my years at UT!

“I will be entering the transfer portal and reopening my recruiting process. Thank you Vol Nation you have been supportive the whole way! Nothing but love! I made friends at UT that’s going to last forever and thankful for everyone who took me in with open arms! I wish nothing but the best for my teammates.”

The Tennessee safety signed with the Vols in the class of 2018. Exiting high school, he was ranked as the nation’s No. 158 overall cornerback and the state of Louisiana’s No. 72 overall prospect, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Davis didn’t record any statistics at Tennessee.
