After a gruesome injury against South Carolina Saturday night, it was clear Tennessee wide receiver Bru McCoy would miss some significant time.

On Sunday, Tennessee football gave an update on McCoy’s status.

The second-year Vol and USC transfer will miss the rest of the season after undergoing successful surgery on Sunday for a fracture-dislocation of his right ankle.

“Bru and his family appreciate all of your prayers and support since last night and in the days ahead,” Tennessee football shared in a statement. “Bru has displayed unwavering toughness, character and leadership as a Vol on and off the field, and he now begins the road to recovery determined to make this just a minor setback on his football journey.”

McCoy has been a huge piece of Tennessee’s offense over the past two seasons. In his first year with the Vols last year, he racked up 667 yards and 4 touchdowns. He had one of the biggest plays of the season against Alabama, making a catch that set Tennessee up for a game winning field goal against the Tide.

Before his injury, McCoy had recorded 217 yards and a touchdown on the season.
