When Butch Jones speaks, Vol fans listen.

The coach urged for an increase in attendance and the Tennessee faithful managed to sellout a home opening game for the first time since 2007 last Sunday. But that isn’t enough, the coach wants fans to continue the support this Saturday against Arkansas State.

“The other challenge is, we need Vol Nation,” Jones said after noting areas in which his team must see improvement. “We had the best football environment in the country, 102,455, our fans were outstanding. It didn’t matter, rainbows, rain, shine, they were here and they stayed to the end. Our student section was outstanding, the Rocky Top Rowdies, now as we call them. We are going to need everyone. I am told, again, we are close to a sellout. We need everyone to buy their tickets and support this football team and continue to make one of the greatest venues in all of college football and a home field advantage for this young football team.”

Last Sunday, Neyland Stadium looked more like its old, familiar self. During their dominance, the Vols were one of the most feared teams to face at home. But in recent years, Tennessee has seen both a decline in wins and attendance.

When hired, Jones promised to bring excitement back to Tennessee football. He’s already won over the passionate fan base and should continue to do so as his teams finds more success. Tennessee’s fans are ready to see their team reclaim its dominance and have grown weary of losing.

With the Vols looking to be a team on the rise, fan support should continue to grow in record numbers. If last week’s game is any indication, Tennessee fans will answer their coach’s call and have another impressive showing in attendance.
