Tennessee travels to Missouri on Saturday with a 38-14 loss at Florida in the rearview mirror. It drops Josh Heupel’s team to 2-2 on the season, with the Volunteers falling to the Gators for the 16th time in 17 tries.

Four games aren’t enough to get a full read on all that’s in store during the Heupel era in Knoxville. But while being complimentary of Heupel’s playcalling, Clay Travis identified one thing he’ll be keeping a close eye on regarding the 1st-year Volunteers head coach.

“I don’t know if Josh Heupel can recruit, and that’s kind of the biggest issue, is can Josh Heupel recruit or not,” Travis said on Monday. “I don’t think anybody really knows the answer to that question at a high level because Tennessee’s still dealing with NCAA issues right now.”

He pointed to a key dropped pass by Jimmy Calloway that would have pulled the Vols within a field goal. Instead, the Gators pulled away to eventually win by 24 pounts.

“I think (Calloway) probably scores if he catches the football there [because] there was no one near him. That would have made it 24-21 late in the 3rd quarter, and we would have seen whether or not we could have had a real game down the stretch,” he added.
