How out of touch is the leadership at Tennessee? It believed it had done all its due diligence on Greg Schiano well before offering him the job to lead its football program.

It took the Volunteer fan base a few hours to destroy all the vetted the school believed was necessary and sent Tennessee’s coaching search into a new stratosphere on a fateful Sunday afternoon. After fans protested the attempted hire, the deal was killed and the school’s Plan A was left in ruin with the search having to start from ground zero.

Thursday evening, in response to a Freedom of Information Act, Tennessee has released several emails from the school during the coaching search process. Among the emails was one in which
Raja J. Jubran, vice chairman of the school’s board of trustees, indicates Schiano had been properly vetted by former AD John Currie.

Whoops!
