Even as Tennessee plays a waiting game with 4-star 2018 QB commit Adrian Martinez, it seems the Vols’ new coaching staff is confident enough to cut ties with another committed quarterback.
On Wednesday afternoon, 3-star 2018 QB Mike Penix announced he was decommitting from Tennessee, but did so by pointing out something interesting.
As you can see in his note below, Penix thanked the Vols’ previous coaching staff before saying he didn’t feel wanted by Jeremy Pruitt and the new Tennessee coaches:

The Vols now only have Martinez committed as far as quarterbacks go, and he is looking at other schools, too.
According to the 247Sports composite, Penix is the No. 20 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2018 and the No. 88 overall recruit from the state of Florida.
Will the move to cut ties with Penix come back to bite the Vols? Only time will tell, but they’d better hope they hold onto Martinez now.
