Former Tennessee quarterback Kaidon Salter had quite the nightmare sequence to begin Liberty’s victory against Middle Tennessee.

On their first play of the game, Salter couldn’t locate his helmet on the sidelines. He then scurried into the huddle just in time to snap the ball, only for his pass to be intercepted.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Salter has helped guide Liberty to a 7-0 record as they sit atop the Conference USA standings. Salter has passed for 1,493 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions, with a QBR of 75.2. Salter has also rushed for 497 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Salter was dismissed by Tennessee in June 2021 after being arrested on charges of simple possession and driving without a license. The former 4-star Texas prospect, who never took a snap for the Vols, was also previously suspended after an incident at an on-campus residence hall.

In total for his college career, the dynamic Salter has passed for 2,618 yards and 25 touchdowns while rushing for 834 yards and 8 scores.

Next up for No. 17 Tennessee is a highly anticipated road matchup at rival No. 11 Alabama on Saturday (3:30 p.m. EST/CBS). Tennessee won last season’s shootout 52-49 in Knoxville to snap a 15-game skid against the Crimson Tide. Tennessee hasn’t won consecutive games against Alabama since 2003-04.
