Tennessee tailback Jalen Hurd will be “full-go” in practice this week, head coach Butch Jones confirmed during his weekly press conference Monday. Hurd saw two carries for seven yards in Tennessee’s 45-10 win over Chattanooga, a week after “dinging” his shoulder against Florida.

“Jalen will be full go,” Hurd said. “He will be at practice today. He will participate. In terms of Derrell, very, very quick. Downhill runner, north and south, has the ability to make you miss, but good burst and acceleration. I thought he did some really good things for handling his first live game opportunities.

“But again, his pass protection, knowledge of the pass protection schemes, just the overall knowledge and volume of the offense is one of the things that he needs to continue to improve on. The repetitions, lowering the pad level, when you come into the contact phase of the run little nuances that go in when you get through repetitions.”

The freshman leads Tennessee with 374 yards and two touchdowns on 84 carries. Hurd recorded a season-best 119 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries in a Week 6 loss to Georgia. The former five-star prospect enrolled early this past January and saw the majority of carries from the backfield in every game prior to Saturday’s win.

Hurd missed the majority of his senior season at Beech High School recovering from surgery to a labrum tear in his right shoulder.
