Tennessee’s backcourt may soon be about to lose some depth.

According to multiple reports, veteran Volunteer guard Jalen Johnson has entered the NCAA transfer portal. This news was first reported by Matt Zenitz of AL.com.

If Johnson were to leave Tennessee via transfer, he would be a graduate transfer and would be eligible immediately elsewhere.

It should be noted that just because a player enters the NCAA transfer portal, that does not mean they cannot return to their current school. Entering the portal simply allows players to be contacted by other teams regarding a transfer.

Johnson averaged 3.5 points, 2 rebounds and 15.7 minutes per game for the Volunteers last season. During SEC play, Johnson averaged 4.2 points per game for the Vols.

The junior guard appeared in all 31 games for Tennessee last season and made two starts. He also serves on Tennessee’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee along with John Fulkerson.

The North Carolina native signed with Tennessee in the 2016 recruiting cycle. He redshirted his first season on Tennessee’s campus following his prep career at Wesleyan Christian Academy in High Point, North Carolina.
