After spending 4 seasons at Tennessee, Jarrett Guarantano is now at Washington State as a graduate transfer. And it appears he’s impressed his new team heading into the season.

According to Jamey Vinnick of 247Sports.com, Guarantano has won the starting job heading into the Cougars’ season opener against Utah State on Saturday night. The former Vols QB beat out sophomore Jayden de Laura.

It wasn’t a sure thing that Guarantano would be named the starter. Last year, de Laura started all 4 of Washington State’s games, so he already had experience in head coach Nick Rolovich’s system.

However, Guarantano has more college games under his belt. He got on the field all 4 of his years at Tennessee, and he attempted at least 139 passes in each of those seasons.

Guarantano passed for 6,174 yards, 38 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in 41 games with the Vols.

Washington State fans will get plenty of opportunities to see Guarantano up close to start the season, as the team opens with 3 straight home games. That begins with Saturday’s matchup against Utah State.

The Cougars and Aggies are set to kick off at 11 p.m. ET on Pac-12 Network.
