Jeremy Pruitt shares the latest on Jarrett Guarantano's status, thoughts on Harrison Bailey's performance after studying Arkansas film
Tennessee is not only faced with the challenge of ending a four-game losing streak against a top 10 team this weekend in Neyland Stadium, the Vols will be doing so without the knowledge of which quarterback will start against Texas A&M.
At least, that’s the case early in the week as Jarrett Guarantano was removed from last weekend’s Arkansas game after suffering a blow to the head.
After Guarantano was taken out of the game, Tennessee’s offense failed to get much of anything going until the closing moments of the game.
On Monday, Jeremy Pruitt shared the latest status update on the team’s senior quarterback.
“He’s day-to-day,” Pruitt said of Guarantano. “Obviously, our medical staff didn’t feel like it was in his best interest to play the rest of the game so we held him out. He’ll be day-to-day this week.”
What will be the plan if Guarantano can’t play against Texas A&M?
“We’ll work the other guys and see how we develop this week and work a good game plan that fits all of those guys,” Pruitt answered.
The Tennessee coach was later asked about the performance of true freshman Harrison Bailey after reviewing the Arkansas tape.
“I thought Harrison, based on the circumstance, done a really nice job there,” Pruitt shared. “They were dropping eight, he took what they gave him, didn’t force the ball until basically the time on the clock forced him to do that. I thought that was promising for him.”
Pruitt has been hesitant to make a change when it comes to the starting quarterback position on Rocky Top but it appears the coach may be forced to do so this week provided Guarantano isn’t cleared to return to action.
Without a doubt, if a change is made, Vol Nation wants to see Bailey get his first career start Saturday against the Aggies.
