Jeremy Pruitt announces 2 Tennessee players have left the team
News broke Tuesday that Tennessee DB Terrell Bailey had entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal. On Wednesday’s weekly media teleconference, Volunteers head coach Jeremy Pruitt said Bailey has left the team and revealed another departure from the UT roster: WR Jordan Murphy.
Pruitt also talked about the performance of OL Trey Smith, the offensive line rotation and more:
- On OL Trey Smith and how he held up: Trey played 31 snaps. Just like any football game, he got banged up. He could have played more, he has done well. We are sticking with the plan.
- On DB Terell Bailey: He is no longer on our team. Jordan Murphy is no longer on our team. Several guys have chosen to leave.
- On Jeremy Banks: I felt like he played hard. It was tough on the kid. When we moved him, he had a death in the family… he does have some recall from that time but he flies around and plays like you are supposed to play.
- On the OL rotation: We have to do whatever it takes to win, we felt playing nine guys gave us the best chance. When you have competition and a few guys, you need to see them play to see which ones are the best.
- On dealing with a loss this tough: If you coach long enough, every loss is the same. They don’t count for more than any other, right?…
We have to go back and improve. - On his team in practice: we have had a really good fall camp, really good. There have been few days we haven’t improved. We have some guys that are playing for the first time… we have some guys that are gaining experience, they have worked hard the entire camp and they will continue to do that, that’s how we handle our business.
With Jordan Murphy’s recent spree of ill-advised tweets, I’m not shocked he’s gone. Bailey wasn’t likely to see much playing time at Tennessee, but I hope he lands on his feet at a school that recognizes his talent and gives him an opportunity to prove himself on the field.
Fallout from the players-only meeting, perhaps?
“Several guys have chosen to leave.”
Several? Names, coach. Please elaborate.
I think he is referring to previous departures but with turmoil like we have right now it would not surprise me to see others go. winning cures everything.
When does the winning start?
Well you gotta circle dem wagons first so to speak. Some of the kids will get caught under the wheels of them there wagons and suffer for it, others will get left outside of the circle and be set adrift by the program to fend for themselves against the injuns. Those you have left inside will have to hunker down and try to salvage your season. This won’t get fixed overnight.
Does anyone else feel dumber after listening to Jeremy Pruitt mangle English grammar?
Pruitt may know how to coach defense, but he is a Bammer redneck hick. When he is fired, and that’s coming within the next couple of years, this will be his last head coaching job. He has “long term DC” written all over him from here on out. You just can’t have a meathead this dumb and ill-spoken be the face of your program. This isn’t 1950.
Careful now, LSU may hear you.
That’s ok. We know Orgeron talks funny. Same with Miles before him. We just want to win.
It is impossible to not like Orgeron if you are a “football” guy. He’s a throwback to the old school coaches. I’m not an LSU fan but I’ve been pulling for Orgeron since USC screwed him over.
Have to say he didn’t do Tennessee any favors.
Orgeron may be unintelligible, but he doesn’t sound ignorant and he can speak well using proper grammar.
He’s from Louisiana, he just chooses NOT to speak well and use proper grammar.
Well, Festus and Mark Twain made a good living out of it. Such bigotry.
Twain was a loquacious, intelligent man who was a known orator as well as a writer.
Pruitt is an ignorant redneck who don’t done talk good.
Yet he knew what sells. You need to find some common ground with the common man.
Then and only then would that be mighty thoughty of you.
That was then, this is now. You can’t have the head of your entire football program who is a dumb, ignorant meathead. Those days are long gone.
As I said, regardless of your flimflammery (that Twain enough for you?), this will be Pruitt’s last job as a head coach. He’ll be buried forever as a DC after he’s fired in Tennessee.
Right, this HC thing doesn’t work out for Pruitt he can always go back to his 2 million dollar a year job as DC. How deep would they have to bury you to make that kind of revenue?
thats pretty good! I personally feel a whole lot dumber.
This coming from a fan of a team that cant spell dogs!
you’ll be spelling it right after they kick your tail
Pruitt: “Why have lot player when few player do trick.”
Jeez if you can’t play at rocky bottom where do you go division 3?
Well, there’s always Flarduh to play for Cousin Eddie (They should have plenty of room with all the decommits for their upcoming class).
They could always go to UF aka University of Felons.
Yet TN was in the news 2 weeks ago for domestic violence…. have you already forgot about Saturday?
Bro, Mullen allowed a kid to stay on the team after choking a tutor. Be careful in that glass house.
The kid is not on the team, you dont know any of the facts. Let’s all pretend Kirby didnt keep Holloman on until it became public…. talk about a glass house.
Uhhh, UF is one of the only AAU schools in the SEC. They actually have standards and it’s not easy there academically. 8th best public university currently. Tennessee on the other hand only hands out degrees to graduates who can count to 1 after 4 years of hard studying, to say nothing of spelling their own names.
That’s a laugh
A Georgia fan critiquing English? Now that’s a hoot!!
You’ll be able to critique the score when Georgia finishes with Small Carolina again this year.
UGA sucks come get some! Hilinski Is the goat f uck the dawgs
“If you coach long enough, every loss is the same. They don’t count for more than any other, right?… We have to go back and improve.”
I’m not sure that’s the right response. For instance, losing to a superior team while fighting hard is categorically, albeit not mathematically, different than being upset by an inferior team and showing little motivation or fire. Reflecting the passion, desire, and championship drive of Vol nation would maybe have been a better response from Pruitt.
Honestly I don’t care what he says anymore. He does talk like an uneducated hick but the only ones who care are dumba$$ trolls like corch. The only thing he can do right now is beat BYU. Don’t say anything else. Just win a game please.
Fair enough…
Kids come and go, coaches come and go, this is the landscape this sport has turned into! There is no such thing as commitment anymore and living up to your word all kids add respect my decision on de-commitment. When you go after 8th graders and smooth talk them they bite as they grow older and look around they change their mind like the wind blows. Kids shouldn’t commit until they are juniors or seniors in high school. History tells a story on most things and coaches usually have a history the history of years ago is different from todays game and things that worked then don’t work now. Alumni doesn’t make you qualified to coach and shouldn’t be a consideration. what do you think the percentage of alumni coaches are that have been a success. I love my Mizzou like you all love your team, Odom is an example of alumni DC turned head coach that should be reconsidered specially after his latest comments about not being ready for the Wyoming game. Isn’t that a head coaches job to have your team ready? Same with Pruitt is he really successful in coaching? Mullen etc…….
It’s all about your perception. Heard a ex QB on the radio yesterday saying a lot of fans were getting on Pruitt for not having the team ready to play. He said BS, the kids have been playing football since boys club, jr high and high school. If they need a coach to get them “ready to play” then they shouldn’t be playing at all. He has a point but I also see the other side of the argument.
He and Corch Muschamp can discuss that philosophy in the offseason.
I would contend that at this level, semi professional is what the college game has turned into in the past 2 decades, the talking about “getting the team ready to play” isn’t emotional or psychology, it’s preparing a proper game plan, studying the opposing team and their probably game plan, and then training your players to execute your game plan so when they step out onto the field for the real deal, they have a pretty good idea on how to achieve victory. When you go to war and lose, you don’t blame the general because he failed to teach the soldiers how to load their guns and fire them that week, it’s the broader picture we’re talking about. The players do generally what they are told. They follow the plan that the coaches are PAID to enact. UT’s problem for a VERY long time is that it doesn’t have anyone competent or qualified to create a proper game plan. They’ve always had the talent, they just haven’t had a real head coach since Philopotamus got fired.
Georgia Trolls,One NC in the Eightys.Since Kirby showed up. They act like they have a ring on every finger.Talk about other teams coaches getting fired.Let Fla and Mullen get another streak started and a couple more of those Bama wuppins and Kirby might be gone before the redneck Pruitt.
I don’t think Kirby is going anywhere. Especially before Pruit or Mullet. You may not like him but he out recruits the panties off off dance queen Hunchback Eddy so he will be your nightmare for a long time.
Well if I was Looking for an article to make me feel better about my team this was the one
The Vols might want to trade Pruitt back in…..
Pruitt isn’t paid to speak proper grammar, he is paid to coach. Right now he is struggling with both, but does his grammar and choice of words really matter?????
