Whether he meant to do it or not, Aaron Murray became one of the biggest stories of SEC Media Days on Tuesday as the former Georgia quarterback called into question how prepared and how well Jeremy Pruitt would be as a head coach.
Here is the complete quote from Murray on Pruitt:
โI donโt know if his personality is fit to be a head coach,โ Murray saidย on ESPN Radio The Game in Nashville. โAs a head coach, thereโs so many things that go into it. Itโs not just going out there and coaching. You have to deal with front office. Youโve got to go talk with the president of the university. You have to deal with boosters. You have to deal with the offense, the defense.
โItโs not just going in there and dealing with the kids and scheming up. Thereโs a lot that goes into it. I donโt think heโs the right guy to kind of be the CEO of a corporation. Heโs really good managing just a defense and being a defensive coordinator. He needs to prove to me that he can handle the whole ship. For right now, I donโt think he can. Weโll see what happens this year. I donโt think it helps that he doesnโt have a lot of talent at Tennessee.โ
It didn’t take Pruitt long to respond to the former Georgia player. It should be noted the two were not in Athens at the same time. Here is the Tennessee coach’s response upon his arrival to SEC Media Days on Wednesday:
Jeremy Pruitt, responding to Aaron Murrayโs criticism, notes that you probably donโt make the ascension from kindergarten teacher to Tennessee head coach without knowing how to properly treat people.
