Joe Milton answered questions about some of his coaches at Tennessee during SEC Media Days on Thursday. He primarily talked about HC Josh Heupel and new offensive coordinator Joey Halzle.

Halzle will be taking over for former OC Alex Golesh, who is now the HC at USF.

Milton was asked if changing offensive coordinators will make anything different about the offense. Halzle was the QB coach in Knoxville the past two seasons.

Milton seemed confident in Heupel’s system and doesn’t believe much will change.

“No. It’s Coach Heupel’s offense,” said Milton. “Whatever he wants, it gets done that way.”

Another thing reporters asked Milton about was his interception numbers since coming to Tennessee. Despite having 6 interceptions at Michigan, Milton has not thrown one yet with the Vols.

When asked about whether those numbers had to do with his decision-making, Milton stated it had more to do with the coaches.

“No. It says something about my coaches,” said Milton. “They put me in the right situations at the right time.”

Hendon Hooker only managed to throw 5 interceptions over his two seasons in Knoxville. Something to watch this season will be how long Milton can go without throwing one interception.

Tennessee opens the 2023 season against Virginia at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee on Sept. 2. That game will have a Noon E.T. kickoff and be shown on ABC.
