Jon Gruden will be inducted into the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Ring of Honor on Dec. 18 for his role in leading Tampa Bay to its only Super Bowl title.

The Tampa Bay job is the last one the current Monday Night Football analyst has had in the coaching ranks, but that hasn’t stopped his name from being linked to many openings over the last few years.

Just last month, rumors about Gruden (Grumors) taking the Tennessee job spiraled out of control, but according to the Tampa Bay Times, Gruden said he can’t be held responsible for all that speculation:

“Well, you know, I don’t have anything to say about it, really,” Gruden said the speculation. “I’ve got a job I’m trying to hang on to. But there’s a lot of games left in the NFL. You know, I love football, I love what I’m doing and I can’t control all the reports, I really can’t.”

Gruden may not be able to control all the speculation, but he didn’t exactly do anything to slow down the reports either.

He could have publicly said he wasn’t taking the Tennessee job, but instead, he stayed quiet as the speculation ran out of control.

Now that the Vols have their new coach, though, it’s only a matter of time until Gruden’s name is linked to yet another open job.
