Tennessee has been dealing with injury issues all season and will now be without one of its veteran linebackers for the rest of the year.

During his weekly press conference Monday, Volunteers coach Josh Heupel announced that senior linebacker Juwan Mitchell had undergone shoulder surgery and would miss the remainder of the 2021 campaign.

A 6-1, 226-pounder from Newark, New Jersey, Mitchell had battled injuries all season. He played in 2 games for the Volunteers, recording 8 tackles, including 7 in a Week 2 loss to Pittsburgh.

Mitchell transferred to Tennessee this past summer from Texas. He had led the Longhorns in tackles in 2020 with 62, while also adding 4.5 tackles for losses and a fumble recovery.

The Volunteers return to action Saturday night with a huge home game against No. 13 Ole Miss.
