Josh Heupel discusses Tennessee's embarrassing loss at Florida
Josh Heupel met with media following the Vols’ ugly, embarrassing loss to Florida Saturday night.
Tennessee was all out of sorts against the Gators. Pre-snap penalties, woeful tackling and some coaching head-scratchers combined to produce by far the worst game of the Josh Heupel era. And that’s following a pretty bad performance against Austin Peay, too.
The Vols are learning quickly that life without Darnell Wright, Jalin Hyatt and especially Hendon Hooker is not always peaches and sunshine.
Heupel met with media following the Vols’ ugly 29-16 loss. He started by explaining the absence of Doneiko Slaughter while also explaining some roster movements along the offensive line.
Josh Heupel said #Vols DB Doneiko Slaughter just wasn’t available tonight and Gerald Mincey didn’t play because they simply elected to roll with Jeremiah Crawford at right tackle.

He also mentioned that while Tennessee players need to be put in better positions, they have to go execute better as well.
Josh Heupel: We have to put them in better situations. They have to go execute better.

Tennessee suffered from numerous pre-snap penalties Saturday night too, especially from center Ollie Lane who was playing in place of Cooper Mays, who was made unavailable just before the game.
Josh Heupel on the pre-snap penalties: Part of the disapointment. We have to execute that. Myriad of issues.
Noted that it’s hard to get into the tempo when you remain behind the sticks.

Sports betting in Tennessee officially launched on November 1, 2020, and many of the largest sportsbooks are live and operating in the volunteer state. Tennessee is only one of a handful of SEC football states with legalized sports betting.
Now that talking season is over and we actually have games to look at versus talk, With Bama and A&M looking terrible and Ole Miss and Auburn not, is Georgia’s schedule tougher than Tennessee’s? Discuss lol
Georgia’s schedule is weak, don’t bother trying to elevate it.
A weak schedule doesn’t mean a weak team. As the Gators will find out at the WLOCP.
Based on the SC game. I’m far from convinced you would have won last night in Gainesville lol. I mean your QB didn’t even score a TD. But we all know the refs would have called a more fair game if UGA was playing as is the standard rule for the top two SEC teams with the best chance to make the playoffs. Only Bama and UGA won’t make the playoffs. Congrats on upsetting SC..lol
Yawn…
So you have had a few good years, and probably a few more coming. But we thoroughly dominated UGA for decades. Come back and puff you chest out ten years from now if UGA is still better than Florida.
Yawn. We dominated you the decade prior. It happens. Teams are up and down. You are down. Those Gator teams in the 90’s were great and it is a mystery to me how Spurrier only managed to win 1 title
It is weak. And you are on it.
Ollie Lane was absolutely horrible tonight. Why isn’t Mays playing?? Did he has his junk removed?? I mean this is his senior year.
Have
No Natty this year? Maybe a Citrus Bowl win will keep them hillbillies frothing at the mouth. Lol.
You can’t spell citrus without UT.
The way the puppies have looked I wouldn’t count on them to win one either. Even with that soft azz schedule.
You all have no shot this year. Your QB can’t score a TD against SC even with their second half collapse. After you trailing 14-3 to a team that won’t win 7 games. I’m not sure we’ll win 8 and I’m convinced you won’t make a Citrus bowl, or win it if you did.. lol
And UT?? You were convinced of an 11 win, maybe even 12 just a day ago.. Got schooled by Napier??
We got a little ahead of ourselves. After that Austin Peay, I was like uh oh, this ain’t the same team as last year!
You said Florida needed to score 30 to beat the Gators. Maury has determined that to be a lie. They in fact only needed 17.
Not this year. We’ll be lucky to make a mid tier bowl game at all at this rate
Heupel does a fair job. In my mind his rank among making the best out of his talent is not a decided trait yet.
How could they not cope with the Swamp?
Well when life only gives you lemons, at least you can still be champions of life.
That All-World Vols defense strikes again!!! They never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
Did he talk about the TO?
Josh drops a couple more game’s especially to celler dweller schools the words ‘interim coach’ will come soon after…
Not a chance. Heupel will be here for the foreseeable future. We are more convinced of that than we are of UGA not losing 2 or 3 games on their schedule. How does the AU and Ole Miss matchup look now to you UGA fans after the SC miracle comeback? lol
Much tougher than Bama or A&M for sure. But at least you bolstered your SoS with your big OOC win over Virginia. Austin Peay lol.
We may never know why Heupel called a timeout with 7 seconds to go in the game.
But the optics of that decision are bad no matter how you slice it.
Wow, really? How about for another shot at the endzone. Mertz was dancing around before he was pushed to the ground. Heupel wanted one shot to the endzone and that timeout guaranteed him that. But the refs decided too many players were gone, fans on the field and some scuffling meant it was too much of a hassle to uphold it.. lol Clown refs all night didn’t help an ugly game of football. But that timeout if the refs did what they were supposed to it would mean TN ball. That was 4th down.
Moron.
Hahahahahah what a delusional idiot, you’re are the epitome of a vols fan, love it
Amen
Yeah some us can definitely be a little delusional. Even if the calls went our way we still deserved to lose that game
One shot at the end zone does nothing but put your players at risk of injury while only serving to pad stats. It was a 2 score game and you didn’t have time to score, get the onside kick and score again. Even if there was no malice, it was not a smart move by your coach.
It’s only week 3 and well, there goes your season. Up in smoke. Lol.
Easy now, I think you only will have 2 losses in the regular season. lol I’m not sure how bad you know SC is and you trailed them 14-3. You won a game against a bad SC team in a game where your QB didn’t have a TD. lol. And that is with you having friendly help in stripes. Honestly, I’m still not sure how you scored 24 points. I’d take Ole Miss and AU to beat you at this point, and if you played like you did yesterday, maybe UF and UK too. The two year post rona, “dynasty” was nice while it lasted and you don’t have an offense or a defense that looks like they could beat a currently ranked top ten team. And yes, both UF and SC are probably 6 or 7 win teams..lol
Where are all the UT fans? The hillbilly roadkill faithful usually are on here talking about beating Georgia and Alabama with their trick no huddle offense
They’re hiding, fan base was already making excuses last week for this loss….they are the sorest losers in sports, they have the perfect coach, enjoy that L Rocky flop
Predictably the hillbilly cockroaches that usually overrun this site have scattered. LMAO.
It takes time to evaluate all the horrific things we saw in a game like this. Than we come back. lol The how and the way takes a lot of unraveling. But as bad as you all looked too, you literally looked like you all were going to storm the field after trailing a what will be a 6 win team 14-3 at halftime, win over game. lol Did Beck even score a TD?
You should stay quiet.
Bahahahahahahahaha what a fat pos sore loser, they’ll never win anything that matters, why he was like the 7th choice when hired, I love it
I need a thesaurus for all the bad/negative words for that ugly loss in Gainesville. I don’t think the Gators are ready to beat UGA for the East, but they sure beat up and embarassed an ugly dog of a team performance Saturday night.
Now, it’s over. Regroup and play out the season.
The honeymood is DEFINITELY over for Heupel, that result was worthy of the bad recent coaches in Tennessee’s history.
Vols looking good for a bid to the Beef o’ Brady’s Bowl!
