Josh Heupel discusses Tennessee's embarrassing loss at Florida
Josh Heupel met with media following the Vols’ ugly, embarrassing loss to Florida Saturday night.
Tennessee was all out of sorts against the Gators. Pre-snap penalties, woeful tackling and some coaching head-scratchers combined to produce by far the worst game of the Josh Heupel era. And that’s following a pretty bad performance against Austin Peay, too.
The Vols are learning quickly that life without Darnell Wright, Jalin Hyatt and especially Hendon Hooker is not always peaches and sunshine.
Heupel met with media following the Vols’ ugly 29-16 loss. He started by explaining the absence of Doneiko Slaughter while also explaining some roster movements along the offensive line.
Josh Heupel said #Vols DB Doneiko Slaughter just wasn’t available tonight and Gerald Mincey didn’t play because they simply elected to roll with Jeremiah Crawford at right tackle.

He also mentioned that while Tennessee players need to be put in better positions, they have to go execute better as well.
Josh Heupel: We have to put them in better situations. They have to go execute better.

Tennessee suffered from numerous pre-snap penalties Saturday night too, especially from center Ollie Lane who was playing in place of Cooper Mays, who was made unavailable just before the game.
Josh Heupel on the pre-snap penalties: Part of the disapointment. We have to execute that. Myriad of issues.
Noted that it’s hard to get into the tempo when you remain behind the sticks.
