Josh Heupel met with reporters Wednesday afternoon to discuss the first day of the Early Signing Period.

While at the podium, Heupel noted the importance of in-state recruiting. The Vols have 7 commits from the state of Tennessee in their 2024 class according to 247 – 6 signees and 1 transfer addition, Jakobe Thomas.

Here’s what Heupel said regarding those additions:

“Yeah, always are gonna place an emphasis on it,” Heupel said. “We spend a lot of time and energy, communication with the high school coaches, guys that have their boots on the ground here. We’re gonna recruit them the right way. It doesn’t mean we’ll get every single one of them. It doesn’t mean we’re gonna offer every single one. But we want to make sure that we’re very thorough in the evaluation process and, based on where we’re at and who they are and what their makeup is, is the right fit.”

During this cycle Tennessee added the No. 4, No. 5, No. 9, No. 15 and No. 19 players out of Tennessee. Boo Carter and Kaleb Beasley are the top 2, rated as the No. 143 and 186 prospects in the country per 247Sports, respectively.

The Vols finish with the No. 11 overall recruiting class in the country.
