In both of Tennessee’s losses this season, there have been a few similarities.

Tennessee came out strong out of the gate against Florida, but then went stagnant. The Vols dominated the first half against Alabama, but collapsed in the second half as Alabama slipped away.

On Monday, Josh Heupel addressed the similarities in the losses.

“We gotta start faster in the second half in both of those ball games,” Heupel said during his press conference Monday. “The Florida one obviously was the first half. There’s a lot of really good things on the video in the second half too. At the end of the day, offense, defense, special teams, you gotta operate as one and we didn’t do that at a high enough level. I like the way we prepared, I liked the way that we practiced, we’ve gotta be on the right side of it when we get to game day.”

Heupel and the Vols are looking to correct the mistakes from the Alabama game as they prepare to take on Kentucky this weekend. The Wildcats are fresh off a bye week and are looking for a signature win, but Tennessee will certainly be fired up after the loss.
